(Hearts & Minds is a non-profit, non-sectarian, non-partisan Special thanks to God, the Source of all fulfillment, with whose help we can reach the rich and poor, humble and proud, wise and foolish. Many of us are inspired by Judeo-Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist ethics and ideals. Some of us are atheists, agnostics, skeptics and doubters. Together, we can rise above labels and prejudice, toward greater meaning, fulfillment and success. Personally, I've been inspired by the high ethical ideals in the Bible. For interesting ideas on success, I suggest looking at Isaiah chapter 58 and I Corinthians chapter 13 of the Bible, both quoted below. I do not understand everything in the ancient scriptures, but these passages seem one good place to start. The scriptures, and modern history, are filled with stories of people whose efforts started small. Drawn to do good, hesitant at first, they overcame tremendous obstacles with some help, of course. You can, too. Here are some
thought-provoking quotations from the Hebrew scriptures: Throughout history, people have followed the light as they saw it to do as much good as possible [God
says,] This rather is the practice that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying
the thongs of the yoke, setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke, sharing your
bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless, clothing the naked when
you see them and not turning your back on your own flesh. And from the Christian scriptures: And now I will show you the most excellent way: If I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give up all I possess and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will pass away, where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now
these three remain: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love. More Quotes to Move and Inspire
